Kristy Kuhn
Kristy was first introduced to yoga in her college dance classes. However, it was not until she returned to NY after graduate school that she began to deepen her practice of yoga at YogaWorks/NYC under the guidance of inspiring teachers, including Jenny Aurthur and Jodie Rufty. Besides the amazing physical benefits, yoga provided the much needed groundedness and shift of perspective for surviving the hectic, yet wonderfully fulfilling life as a performing artist. She enrolled in YogaWorks’ 200hr and 300hr teacher training programs to learn more about the many aspects of both yoga and herself, and instantly became fascinated with the mental science of yoga and Patanjali’s simple yet profound words: by changing your mind you change everything. Kristy earned her 500hr yoga teacher certification and RYT500 status in 2008. Teaching naturally evolved out of her love for the practice and her desire to provide opportunities for others to experience the wonderful benefits of yoga.
Kristy loves integrating her passions for movement, science, and living/learning/growing through her studies and teachings of yoga and other movement disciplines. She views her role as that of a guide who assists students along their path toward greater self-awareness. Kristy strives to provide a warm, supportive environment and safe sequencing where students can turn their focus inward and openly embrace the present moment by experiencing the subtleties of breath and alignment.
Outside of the studio, Kristy infuses yoga into her dancing life here in Boston with Weber Dance and her work as a certified personal trainer. She received an MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BS in Biology and Dance minor from Bucknell University, where she will be teaching once again as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Spring 2011.
